Leishmaniasis are an infectious diseases caused by protozoan parasites, transferred to humans by sand flies. If not cured, it can cause death. Together with tha group Cimic ( civil and military cooperation) many medical examinations were performed. The main purpose was to treat leishmaniosis, which particularly affects Afghan children and can be recognized because of ulcers in different distircts of the body. For the same purpose, to cure leishmaniasis, pentavalent antimony (sodium stibogluconate = Pentostan) was delivered to Afghanistan.

The dyalisis ward from the Cividale del Friuli hospital (health unit No. 4, Medio Friuli) provided football uniforms for children in Kabul orphanages. This way it was possible to organize an official championship of this sport, in the Afghan capital.

Spes and Auxilia donated many different materials to the male and female orphanages of Herat. Thanks to the help of Italian militaries, we were able to deliver 76 boxes containing two and a half tons of clothes, shoes, blankets, sheets, toys, teaching and sanitary materials.

Auxilia together with SPES, sent to the Baghlan hospital, which was reocnstructed by the Italian Cooperation, a container full of sanitary equipment donated by the local health unit of Trieste. The NGO AISPO was also cooperating.
